Open Studios at Troy Laundry Building
Dec 8th, 2007 by Brad
Jenene Nagy‘s work “Slope” was one of the first works I saw at the Open Studios opening at the Troy Laundry building this weekend. 20+ artists are having open studios. I always like going into studios to see finished work and work in progress and partial ideas. It is also a great time to meet people whose work I’ve seen but never had a chance to say “hello”. Twas nice to meet Jenene whose work I’ve seen around town but haven’t had a chance to talk to. I didn’t see her speak at the NAAU Artist Talk at “The Hook Up†but I did use her work as a backdrop when Brendon was speaking. No disrespect I was just late showing up. 🙂
At the “Construct/Re-Construct at Cathedral Park Place” I blogged about one of my favorite works. It was Horatio Law’s “Uni-American” it consisted of two projectors at opposite ends of a darkened room projecting flag images against one screen.
A great thing about the open studios was it was my chance to meet Horatio and to sit down and talk about art and various projects. While I don’t have an image of one of his works I do have an image of his studio on the right. The image projected is part of the Oregon Beat show he was also featured in.
Horatio has some interesting projects coming up so it you can be part of them, grab the chance.
An artist whose work I haven’t seen before is Jeffrey T. Baker. I was particular struck by the image on the left. He is going to donate this image to the OCAC. It will be part of the Alumni Centennial Exhibition that runs January 11-February 22, 20077.
Jeffrey says in his bio, “I gravitate towards imagery that suggests a narrative or contains a sense of the forgotten and neglected. Those photographs that speak most powerfully to me, be they found images or photographs of my own creation, serve as the foundation for the obsessively rendered mixed media drawings that I create today.”
I’ll finish with the words on a studio door. It says, “Have Adventures Everywhere”. I agree, now off to sleep, and then to adventure!
