Chris Jordan: Videos online…
Oct 18th, 2007 by Brad
I was sitting at home poking at my website and a fellow photographer appeared on the TV. on the “The Colbert Report.” none the less. (click to see the video) I think Chris did a nice job and showed various images during the interview. Last year I got an email preview of this work, since my girlfriend is a friend of Chris. I’ve also seen the work in person in New York.
I enjoy his work as pointing the excesses of our consumerism, but I’m not fully convinced of it as art that will have a lasting aesthetic impact. Basically I do get some wow factor from the new work, but that is just due to quantity of consumerism. I don’t feel the creativity or passion in the images created at this point in time. But it got me thinking of creating more art as a societal change factor. Clearly this is an important topic. Makes me ponder about what could serve as a bigger artistic statement in this area?
You can also see a video of Chris explaining his work on Bill Moyer’s website.
Even though Chris no longer lists it on his resume, he won the Alaska Airlines first place photography contest a couple of years before I won. …but I don’t think I’ll make “The Colbert Report” in a couple of years. 🙂
