Photography/Music & two bands
Sep 26th, 2007 by Brad
This past weekend I saw two bands. Some might be wondering why the posts on music when I talk a lot about art. I think there is a deep connection. In fact after this week’s posting on the band “Battles” one of my friends told me that he understand’s why I like Battles, “Their music is like your photographs… at first confuses me, complex but simple, rhythmic, and a new turn on things that sticks with me”. Wow, cool.
Recently, American Photo magazine interviewed both Lou Reed and Graham Nash about their photography and music. Here is what they said:
- American Photo Interviewer: “Do you see a connection between music
and photography?” Lou Reed: “I think it is all pretty much the same, it’s rhythm, light, air, focus… focus, focus, and more focus, that’s what I think…”
American Photo Interviewer: “..yesterday we were talking with Lou Reed, he thought music and photography are part of the same thing”
Graham Nash: “They are, they are absolutely part of the same energy beam. Well its just energy that you are dealing with isn’t it, it visual energy or musical energy, it’s all the same energy…”
On saturday I saw Derby at the Doug Fir “FirFest” outside under the tent.
These local boys really have music that is fun and damn it just so catchy that their tunes stick in your mind. Their new CD is in final production, and I can’t wait to get a copy.
