New Nouvel building next to MoMA and travel to NYC
Nov 15th, 2007 by Brad
There is a new tower proposed for Midtown Manhattan right next to MoMA. Jean Nouvel is the architect for this proposal. What is proposed would also give MoMA about 40,000 square feet of additional gallery space in the new tower. A NYT article has more details and some images.
I’m heading to New York tomorrow for a bit less than 2 weeks. If anyone has particular suggestions on particular gallery shows or music in city during that time, leave a comment.
Thankfully I’ll be able to shoot with abandon due to the info in a previous posting “New York City and reasonable rules for street photography”
I’ll end with a quote from Nouvel:
“I’m a contextual architect by desire and by conviction, and I have been since the moment I began this profession. I’ve always thought that you build a building, wherever it is, in a particular place, with the notion of respecting everything around it.” — Jean Nouvel
Sounds another architect’s quote:
“Always design a thing by considering it in its next larger context – a chair in a room, a room in a house, a house in an environment, an environment in a city plan.†— Eliel Saarinen (Finnish-born Architect 1873-1950)
