Portland’s April First Thursday Gallery Openings
Apr 3rd, 2008 by Brad
I don’t have time to write much tonight, so just some quick notes.
At Quality Pictures (916 NW Hoyt, Portland, OR) I liked the work by Bryan Schellinger in the back room.
This is a preview of new work debuting at NEXT in Chicago (Apr 25-28). Next is an invitational exhibition of emerging art at the Merchandise Mart.
Some of you may remember Bryan’s work at QPCA July of last year. That was a good show. You can read a review of the July show is at PORT.
I’m a big fan of painter James Lavadour.
Lavadour’s new show at PDX Contemporary Art (925 NW Flanders, Portland OR) is called “Close to the Ground”. I’ll definitely be back latter this month to take more time with this work.
At Blue Sky Gallery (122 NW 8th Ave, Portland OR) is Lisa Robinson’s “Snowbound.”
I first met Lisa and saw her work at FotoFest 2006 in Houston (where I only saw the work out of a portfolio box). It was great to see her work on the wall. Lisa also has a new book called “Snowbound” that has images from the show. You can take a look at it at Blue Sky or Powells. Lisa’s boyfriend Ken Rosenthal (also a photographer of note) was also at the show. Lisa will talk about her work this Saturday April 5th at 3PM at Blue Sky.
After stopping at Hartman Fine Art to see the good Jason Langer show “Secret City”, I ran intoTJ Norris. TJ and I had a nice talking out on the sidewalk just catching up a bit. TJ is pretty excited about his upcoming show at NAAU (922 SE Ankeny St, Portland, OR). He is going to have something different then what we see in Portland. I like different. I don’t know much about the show, but seeing TJ’s excitement, I can’t wait to see it.
I got a good chuckle at Scott Wayne Indiana‘s new installation at Ogle Gallery (310 NW Broadway, Portland OR). (image below)
Jeff Jahn at PNCA.
