HOUSTON, TX – The De Santos Gallery is pleased to announce an upcoming exhibition by photographer Brad Carlile. The show will open June 5th and close July 24th, with an opening reception for the artist on Saturday, June 5th, from 5:30-8pm. This will be Carlile's first solo exhibition in Houston.

Brad Carlile's large-scale color photographs from the series "Tempus Incognitus" depict hotel rooms in which time and space fade into one another and any sense of time is lost. These works challenge our intuition about time itself and pique our curiosity about the stories held within those walls. When asked to describe this new body of work, Carlile says, "Think Edward Hopper interiors awash in James Turrell colors with David Lynch directing.

Brad Carlile De Santos Gallery Installation view 1"Tempus Incognitus" records the day's transitional times and shows them existing concurrently. The Cubists painted individual scenes from several different perspectives at once. In this series, Carlile photographs individual rooms at several different times of day from a single perspective.

In traditional photography, change or movement is rendered as a blur and detail is lost, but Carlile uses a time-intensive technique that captures detail and emphasizes change in vivid colors. He shoots with a medium-format camera and prints on a large scale to enhance the impact of the colors, which are created in camera and on film with no digital manipulation.
