I’m back in Portland for a bit, so I managed to check out the 1st Thursday openings. At the new gallery Chambers Gallery @ 916 (916 Flanders, Portland OR) is Allen Maertz’s Photography. Some good work with a particular view point. I also like this new space in a nice central location. More good photography [...]

Last fall I just missed the three-person show at Hasted/Hunt (NYC) that Gerald Slota was in. Missed it by a week. Slota’s new show at Quality Pictures (916 NW Hoyt, Portland, OR) was a chance for us to see some of his work. Gerald Slota photographs look like constructed images from many sources. The are [...]

Eric’s organic glass sculptures, are filled with a variety of noble gases, give them a a different soft yet surreal bioluminescent glow. Without touching, try hovering your hands over [...]

There were many shows to look at this First Thursday and it was a wonderful warm evening to walk around Portland. Amanda Wojick had several sculptures and other works on display at Elizabeth Leach Gallery (17 NW 9th, Portland OR). I particularly like the sculpture “Among” which was a connected stack of polystyrene. “Among” can [...]

I don’t have time to write much tonight, so just some quick notes. At Quality Pictures (916 NW Hoyt, Portland, OR) I liked the work by Bryan Schellinger in the back room. This is a preview of new work debuting at NEXT in Chicago (Apr 25-28). Next is an invitational exhibition of emerging art at [...]

Michael T. Hensley’s “Loss/Control” show at Mark Woolley Gallery (817 SW 2nd, Portland OR) was a great place to start Portland’s First Thursday this month. Chromatically you had your choice of vibrant blue or cream&rust. Both worked wonderfully for me. The cream and rust were more numerous and had some beautiful isolated interesting intimate details.
